Global Warming: Hoax of the Century Put on Ice!

By: Dr. David Friedman

There are two words that I am sick of hearing: Global Warming! Some scientists and politicians have called it, “The end of the world!” The media has scared us into believing that this man made greenhouse effect will lead to melting glaciers, droughts, destructive storms and massive flooding which will submerge coastal regions, eventually killing millions of people. Well, before you start building an ark, let’s see if these global warming claims are anything more than over-hyped media propaganda with hidden financial motives.

First, let’s reminisce a bit and go down memory lane to another “end of the world” media frenzy that was supposed to cripple the nation: Y2K.

The Y2K scare was based on the fact that computers neglected to account for the new four-digit year “2000” and only read two-digit years like “99” which stood for 1999. Because the stock market, banking institutes and even the military depend on computers to function, it was predicted that the new year would be our last year. If you remember, in the months leading up to January 1, 2000, people were preparing for this apocalypse by purchasing several months worth of canned, dehydrated food and water. It got so bad that one of my patients who owned a waterbed store at the time told me he had completely sold out of beds. Not for sleeping purposes but because they hold 300 gallons of water which could be used to drink. Yes, people were preparing to drink their beds to survive the wrath of Y2K!

Americans spent billions of dollars on generators, flashlights, batteries, gasoline and stockpiled propane. Because ATMs and banks were thought to no longer function after the stroke of midnight, millions of people scrambled to withdraw money from their accounts. It was also predicted that all the software systems used by grocery stores, phone, electric and cable companies would cease to function. People purchased guns to protect their family from all the riots that would result from this computer-generated apocalypse.  Even I fell for the media hype and withdrew money from my bank account, stockpiled flashlights and purchased a hundred batteries.

Then, on January 1, 2000, the dreaded Armageddon had arrived. I cringed as Dick Clark finished his countdown at New York’s Times Square. Then… nothing. That’s right. Not one predicted Y2K catastrophic event came true.

Now, we have another “end of the world” scare called global warming. As the saying goes, “Fool me once, shame on youfool me twice, shame on me!” As I write this from my Eastern North Carolina home where, just minutes from the beaches, I am stuck inside because our city has completely shut down due to historic record cold weather and dangerous snowy roads. It forces me ask the question: Where is this global WARMING I’ve heard so much about?

In 2007, while accepting a Nobel Prize for his global warming initiative, Al Gore made a striking prediction, “The North Polar ice cap is falling off a cliff.  It could be completely gone in summer in as little as seven years. Seven years from now.” Those years have come and gone and Al Gore was wrong! Now we have President Obama taking the helm in support of  global warming awareness. Why? For that answer, follow the money. Proof is emerging that Al Gore and President Obama have financially benefited from fueling the global warming hysteria (see the article in Newsmax here for this story). Tax payers fork out over $22 billion annually to fight the global warming crisis!  To put this into perspective, that’s two times more money than  Americans spend annually on coffee!

The point I’m making here is there’s  a lot of money supporting  this politically biased global warming hype. So don’t allow this to cloud you from the unbiased facts.  Here is one of those undeniable facts: The United States is experiencing record temperature lows.  Michigan, Cleveland, Chicago and Connecticut had their coldest February temperatures in recorded history.   In North Carolina we experienced unprecedented freezing cold temperatures reaching  a frigid 12 degrees.  Even the sunshine state of Florida endured a frigid record cold February.

While the nation is seeing historic high snowfall, global warming advocates  are now trying to convince us that this  COOLING trend is caused by global WARMING. Huh?! That’s like saying  heating up ice-cream on the stove is what causes it to get really cold.   Because of the record freezing weather,  “global warming” advocates are now using a new name; they are calling it “climate change.”  Even National Geographic published an article titled, “Blizzard of Nor’easters No Surprise, Thanks to Climate Change.” How convenient.  Now that we are experiencing historic freezing cold weather and snow,  just remove the word “warming”  and carry on with the same scare tactics.

I can recall several different names being used for the Y2K hoax: Millennium Bug, 2000  Bug, and Cyber Armageddon – but no matter how many names it was given, Y2K was a colossal media sham. Then came the next “sky is falling” media monster showing its ugly face just a year later. In 2001, the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was the first organization to warn the public about global warming. The IPCC publicly stated,  “Milder winter temperatures will decrease heavy snowstorms.”  Clearly their prediction was wrong.  In fact, if you look at objective scientific data for the past two decades,  it shows we’ve experienced record colder days with more snow.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) data shows that the United States has been “cooling” for the past decade.

Today global warming advocates are wearing two faces.   They went from stating on record that “Global warming will cause winters to become increasingly warmer with less snow” to now telling us,  it will cause “colder temperatures with more snow.” How can global warming activists claim recent record snowfalls are caused by warmer winters?

According to NASA’s own data via Remote Sensing Systems (RSS), the world has warmed a mere .36 degrees Fahrenheit over the last 35 years. And the bulk of that miniscule warming took place between 1979 and 1998.  Since then, temperatures have actually been DROPPING! In fact, since 1998, the world is 1.08 degrees cooler.

But what about all those melting glaciers? Surely this is proof of the greenhouse effect causing  global warming? Nope. A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Texas, Austin found that the West Antarctic Ice Sheet is collapsing due to geothermal heat from magma and volcanoes under the glaciers.  Geophysicists have presented proof that this is a key factor  as to why the ice sheet is currently melting.  Because heat levels under the glacier are uneven, some areas are becoming much hotter than others.

Doom and Gloom

The media loves to give us “doom and gloom” stories. And there’s a good reason for that. The more negative the story, the more viewers will tune in. We want to see firemen arriving on the scene at a sky rise inferno more than we want to see firemen rescuing an elderly lady’s cat from a tree. It’s just our nature. Did you know that sponsors are charged more to advertise by a network during times of devastating fires, political scandals, bad weather and airline crashes? The majority of people seem to gravitate toward bad news.

For those of you in the minority, I have some good news to share. Polar ice caps will not melt and destroy life on our planet as we know it. Winters will not disappear depriving your children of building snow men. Burlington Coat Factory will not go out of business. The winter months will continue to be very cold and the summer months will remain really hot. There is a better chance of hell freezing over than global warming heating up and destroying life on earth.

Let me also state for the record that hurricanes and tornadoes are NOT due to global warming either. During the past few years there has been a marked decline in hurricanes. Proponents of global warming won’t comment on that. Instead, they will wait until we have an increase in hurricane activity and then publicly say, “I told you so.” Sorry to disappoint you, but every weather and climate event – whether warm or cold, rain or shine – is not attributed to global warming.

In closing, if you still believe that global warming is going to destroy our planet and you are in preparation mode for this catastrophic event, contact me because I still a cabinet full of batteries and flashlights left over from Y2K. I’ll offer you a great price.

Okay, enough about this topic. It’s time for me to step away from the computer and go for a nice walk. I’ll be sure to wear a thick jacket, gloves and ear muffs so I don’t develop frostbite.
